On Friday, you may have received an e-mail entitled “Know Your Options” from the Illinois Policy Institute (IPI). In it, IPI claims to be a “non-partisan policy research organization” that is “here to help you.”

This ostensibly caring e-mail was sent from a vicious wolf in sheep’s clothing.

MVCC PA and APA Together at NYSUT Conference

Community College Conference: Professional Development and Solidarity

Community College educators from all around New York State gathered in Cooperstown November 8-10 for a weekend of learning and networking organized by NYSUT.  Among those were representatives of our local, President Kay Chester and Negotiating Team members Jerry Brown and Maryanne Taverne.  In addition to attending a number of informative workshops and seminars, they met with MVCC colleagues from the Professional Association as well as colleagues from other adjunct and part-time locals around the state.

APA Union Charter Presented at Leadership Conference

 

President Kay Chester and Negotiating Team member Maryanne Taverne accepted our new union's AFT charter at the NYSUT Regional Leadership Conference in Alexandria Bay on October 5.  The conference was attended by 170 NYSUT leaders, who joined unanimously in a standing ovation of welcome and congratulations for our new local.

Meetings & Events for Nov.18 -24, 2013 and Common Core Forum

Senator Martin sponsored Commissioner King's Forum last Wednesday, Nov. 13th at Mineola H.S.. This event was open to constituents in Senator Martin's district. HTA members from each school, as well as, administrators, board members, PTA members, parents and community members attended this event. The meeting lasted about three hours. The program was divided into four segments. The topics discussed were:

United Academics of Philadelphia, American Federation of Teacher’s (AFT) Local 9608 is an organization that seeks to unify and support the nearly 15,000 adjunct instructors currently working in Philadelphia-area colleges. As a vital but often underrepresented element of higher education, we believe that together we can accomplish what we cannot achieve as individuals.  To ensure respect, security, fair pay and benefits from our institutions of employment, UAP is advocating for the unionization of adjuncts at Philadelphia-area colleges.
