Unions Mount Telephone Campaign Against Shutdown

With the rollout of the ACA Marketplace enrollment, many of our members may have renewed questions about the Affordable Care Act and how it affects them. Attached are two documents from AFT that might be of assistance.
The Baltimore Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) will hold a contract ratification vote on Monday, October 21, from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the union’s offices, 25 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Suite 208, in Towson, Maryland. The ballots will be counted after voting has closed at 6:00 p.m., and the results will be announced immediately after completion of the count. Voting is for union members only. All voters must have valid identification to participate in the voting process. Union members are welcome to witness the counting of ballots.

(Baton Rouge – October 1, 2013) A recent full-page advertisement purchased on behalf of the East Baton Rouge Parish school Board violates the confidentiality of teachers’ evaluation results and should never have appeared, according to the East Baton Rouge Federation of Teachers.

The Maryland Professional Employees Council (MPEC) will hold a meeting to discuss the progress of negotiations on the new contract for Unit G employees in the Comptroller’s Office on October 3rd, 2013, at 301 W. Preston Street in Baltimore. The meeting will be held in the 13th Floor Conference Room from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Meeting attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches. Dessert will be provided.
Another MPEC debriefing meeting is scheduled for October 9th at the Ram’s Head Tavern, 33 West Street, in Annapolis from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
An MPEC contract debriefing meeting was held on September 24th at the Maryland Transportation Authority, 2400 Broening Highway.
The meetings are MPEC’s attempt to assure that all Unit G employees understand how their salaries and benefits will be affected by the new contract.
