Extended Thanksgiving Break

Extended Thanksgiving Break
Colleagues,
As we approach the busy holiday season, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your hard work during these unprecedented times and share some information regarding our schedule for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday
Today I asked for and received permission from the Board of Education to close the district for the entire week of Thanksgiving. This means all schools and offices will be closed from Monday, November 22 through Friday, November 26. We are sending this information out now to give everyone, staff and families, a chance to make plans for this extended break.
My hope is these extra couple of days will allow everyone to take a little extra time for themselves and their families. Family is, after all, much of what Thanksgiving is all about.
In response to the decision, Ray Cummings, President of AFT St. Louis, Local 420 said, “Our SLPS ‘family’ collectively have been heroes during this public health crisis. “We have stepped up to help protect the children and one another. We have much to be thankful for including the school board’s recognition of the efficacy of "self-care days.”
Additionally, I have recommended and the Board agreed to adjust the 2021-2022 school calendar to a “no student” day on the 12th of November and change that day to a Professional Development Day. The District is already closed in observance of Veteran’s Day on November 11th.
We are living and working in challenging times and I want you to know that we see your efforts and appreciate them far beyond what a few words can express.
In the meantime, keep up your excellent efforts. Let’s direct our energies toward guiding our students to a strong finish for quarter number two.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kelvin R. Adams
