Local 420 Pandemic Update

Local 420 Pandemic Update

Our union has been working on COVID-19 issues, since March, in partnership with the St. Louis Public Schools. Our continued mission has been protecting the health and safety of children, our members, our families and the community-at-large. We have also successfully advocated, thus far, for continued employment, salaries and benefits for everyone we represent, both certificated and non-certificated.

Although the pandemic is driving much of the decision making, the district has continued to meet with Local 420 and to respond positively to the clear majority of our requests. Just to name a few:

*District did not return to brick and mortar sites after Spring Break as originally announced and we finished the year 100% virtual, with all SLPS employees being paid

*District agreed to 100% virtual for the 1st 10 weeks after orginally announcing reopening plans for a return to brick and mortar

*District agreed to negotiate virtual duties for support staff after originally announcing furloughs and lay offs for all staff including teachers if we reopened virtually

*District agreed to honor reasonable ADA requests for high risk individuals and the accommodations request deadline was extended at the request of Local 420

*District agreed to adopt a reopening plan with provision for changes based on COVID-19 data on the ground.

We are presently negotiating with the district on how to staff the Instructional Support Centers (ISC) in a fair and equitable manner.

Please understand that these are unprecedented times and developing a plan that is without precedent is not easy. Our plan is evolving and change along the way is inevitable.

Have Faith that we will get through this!

We are Better Together.
