The WBLTA took the unprecedented step of formally adopting a legislative stance for approval of the HITA Bill (Health Insurance Transparency and Accountability Act). As you know, health insurance premiums have skyrocketed in the past few years. This bill will go a long way towards curbing the worst abuses that lead to higher costs.

Today members of the SCTA gathered along with thousands of other local unions, activists, parents and students to SAY NO TO CUOMO. Governor Andrew Cuomo was attending a Democratic Committee event as an "honored" guest and speaker. The rally was spirited and a great show of solidarity and togetherness in our fight for public education.

The Maryland Classified Employee Association held their annual convention in Ocean City, MD on October 13-15, 2014. This year's theme was "Reclaiming the Promise of Quality Public Services for Strong Communities."
President Linda Day oversaw the convention and will continue to serve as that union's leader. Speakers included AFT Secretary-Treasurer Lorretta Johnson, AFT- Maryland President Marietta English, AFL-CIO MD/DC President Fred Mason among others. Speakers emphasized the need to turn out to vote and to vote specifically for candidates that would support state workers.

An addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Baltimore County Administration and the Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees
The Maryland/District of Columbia AFL-CIO will launch its electoral “Labor Kick-off and Canvas” events for endorsed candidates April 26, 2014. Events include a rally from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m., Labor to Labor Walks from 9:45 until 12:1500 p.m., and a luncheon meeting from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
