To All Northcoast Early Childhood Workers

As we begin this new school year all Head Start employees should have seen a 4.9 COLA raise in their paychecks.  Plus Head Start
employees who saw their step raises frozen should have received that step from last year.  I totally believe without the union taking NCS
management to mediation we would not have gotten these pay increases.  The negotiation team continues to advocate for the State
Preschool employees, who also equally deserve the same treatment.
I would suggest that State Preschool employees address their
concerns at the monthly NCS Board meetings.  Upcoming dates are
as follows, Tues. Oct. 20 6:00-8:00 pm, Tues Nov. 17 and Tues.
Dec. 15.  If you would to obtain an agenda call the main office and ask
them to fax you a copy.
I want to thank the 30 plus union members who attended our Special
General Meeting.  This meeting had a good discuss and members
were able to voice their ideas and concerns.  From that meeting it
was moved and approved that the benefit package remain the same
for this year.  A "BIG THANK YOU" to current part-time staff who
agreed that going from a $250 deductible to $2,250 deductible in Health Benefits was too large a change plus with the high deductible they felt they could not afford it!!!
Our next NECW Executive Board Meeting is Tuesday Oct. 22 from
6:00 - 8:00 pm.  All members are invited with only Executive Board Members voting.
I hope you were able to view the Union's square on the Pastels on the Plaza.  Bev Hanns did a great job.
Your negotiating team will have 2 sessions in Oct. where we hope
to make some headway and move this contract to a conclusion.
I would encourage you to wear your AFT t-shirts, buttons, and stickers to let your fellow workers and management that change is needed NOW.

New Teachers Beware...

Just a friendly reminder about Professional Development Hours...

PLEASE make sure that you are registering for ANY and ALL conferences that you are attending, whether it falls under a Superintendent's Conference Day or Professional Development Day, using My Learning Plan. This is particularly important for new teachers that fall under the Initial/Professional Teacher Certification guidelines. You WILL NOT gain all of your hours through these days and we want to make sure that no one is at risk of losing certification over this matter.

UPDATE

On September 23, 2009, the MCC Board of Trustees ratified the tentative agreement.
