Last year Florida Governor Rick Scott signed HB 7055 into law. Among the many bad provisions in this omnibus education bill, is one which calls for the decertification of teachers’ unions that have below 50% dues paying members. This is a clear effort to silence the voice of our state’s teachers’ unions, which is the strongest voice advocating on behalf of educators, students and public education.

The 85th convention of the American Federation of Teachers will be held July 13-16, 2018 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, PA.  Please click the following Web link for DFT election of delegate deadlines:

The biennial AFT convention is the most important policymaking body of the federation. The vitality and democracy of the union depend upon participation in the convention by delegates from all affiliates in good standing. Important resolutions, constitution and bylaws amendments, and the election of the AFT president, secretary-treasurer, executive vice president and 43 vice presidents will be in the hands of the delegates. Each affiliate should take part in the election and in all other important convention business. Plan now to ensure representation from your affiliate.

In anticipation of winter storm Quinn, the Governor's Office released the following statement: 

OSEA Chapter 14 offers a scholarship for the children, stepchildren and grandchildren of Oregon School District OSEA members. 

High school senior applicants will be judged on academic success, community service and character.  Senior is not restricted to attend Oregon City High School.  This is NOT a need-based scholarship.  The student will be notified if they are the winner and the funds will be forwarded to the school of their choice.  The winner(s) will be required to attend a future meeting of the association.

This is a $500 scholarship.
