Fiction: I haven’t had a raise in 5 years
Fact: Although not enough, here are the facts about the raises we received from 2017-2019:
Our Collective Bargaining Agreement (contract) that expired on June 30, 2020 was negotiated by then President Mary J. Armstrong and it contained raises from 2017 to June 30, 2020
It should be noted that the salary increase table below was the 5th offer from the district after a lengthy set of negotiations. The Agreement (contract) was be finally ratified by a vote of our membership in 2017. A ratification vote is required by the constitution before term can be accepted. As a result, ALL categories of employees represented by Local 420 received raises for the duration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (contract) No permanent employee in good standing received no less than a cumulative total raise of 11%
Let’s consider several examples using the salary increase table below:
1. Ms. S an Elementary School Classroom Teacher with a BA+15 and 4 years experience in July 2017 received a 6.5% increase, then 3.25% increase in July 2018, then another 3.25% increase in July 2019for a total 2017-2019 increase of 13.0%.
2. Mr. B a Special Education Secondary Teacher with an MA and 11 years experience in July of 2017 received 6.5% increase, then a 3.25% increase in July 2018, then another 3.25% in July 2019 for a total 2017-2019 increase of 13%
3. Ms. A an AIC at a Middle School with 1 year experience in July 2017 received a 5.5% increase, the a 2.75% increase in July 2018, then another 2.75% increase in July 2019 for a cumulative increase of 11.0%
4. Mr. J a Non-Certificated
